Ranchester is located at the foot of the scenic Bighorn Mountains in Northern Wyoming. Bighorn National Forest consumes 1,115,171 acres in the Bighorn Mountains of North and Central Wyoming. It can be reached by traveling the Big Horn Scenic Highway, Highway 14, which crosses 8,950 foot Granite Pass. Hwy 14A, Bighorn Scenic Byway, is the route that reaches Ranchester. It passes by Snowy Range Scenic Byway near the astounding Medicine Wheel. Hwy 16, Cloud Peak Hwy, reaches the forest as well. This highway crosses 9,677 ft Powder River Pass and winds through Ten Sleep Canyon. The highest peak within the forest is Cloud Peak. Backpacking and saddle and pack trips can be taken into 189,039 acre Cloud Peak Wilderness. The forest contains 47 campgrounds, picnic areas and a great trail network.
